The film was written by Julian Fellowes – the same man who created and produced Downton Abbey. The royal couple had nine children four princes and five princesses. The story is about Victoria’s maturing as a monarch, but the tale of how Albert loves confronts and supports creates a legacy of royal power that reaches multiple countries for generations to come. She was married to Albert from 1840 to 1861 and remained a widow for the next 40 years. Unlike many other monarchs, she married the man she loved. Victoria has been called the queen of the greatest empire the world has ever known. Over time, she needed to grow into her role as queen and learn to make decisions that were less about her and more about the stability of the kingdom. She was crowned as Queen in 1837 and remained the monarch until 1901. This is the story of Victoria’s growth as a Queen. He becomes a trusted and respected member of the royal household. He abandons his family’s directives and serves the Queen.Īlbert enters their life together willing to work through many difficult family and political expectations and eventually wins her heart. As time goes on, Albert sees Victoria’s character and spunk and falls in love with her. Her future husband Albert, was sent by his family to create an alliance between Germany and England. The story is very compelling for a couple of reasons listed below. Victoria embarks on her journey as Queen at the age of 18, she wants to lead with grace and insight but needs to work through several very powerful family, political and emotional issues. While it may be classified as a chick flick, it also provides some great insight into the ins and outs of governing a country that some guys might enjoy.
